Today, we are celebrating the glorious return of all the flavors of Fall and bringing you a recipe to make this time taste even better. If you're looking for the perfect Fall drink that's not too heavy, then try this simple recipe for pear cider. It's both sweet and spicy—perfect for the holidays or any time of year.
Inspired by our 100% plant-based Pear Cider candle and room spray, this homemade pear cider recipe is aromatic, cozy and brimming with delicious fall flavor!
The best part about making homemade pear cider is that you can adapt the recipe to suit your tastes. For example, if you like a sweeter cider, add more sugar. If you prefer a stronger flavor, use more spices. The possibilities are endless and it's easy to make it your own!
Water (Fill large pot or slow cooker 3/4 of the way)
2 cups brown sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (Or a couple of cinnamon sticks if you prefer) These add a warm spiciness that pairs well with the pears' natural sweetness.
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon allspice berries or ground allspice. This spice is similar to cloves in flavor, but lighter and more aromatic—a perfect companion for the other flavors in this cider recipe!
1 teaspoon nutmeg
8-10 pears (depending on size) - peeled and cut into halves or quarters (peels can be saved for making pear puree or using in other recipes)
Juice from 1 orange - about 2 tablespoons
Optional: Ginger slices or chunks of ginger root (fresh or dried). If using fresh ginger root, mince it into small pieces first before adding it to your cider mixture; dried ginger slices can go right into the pot whole without being minced first.
This recipe is simple to make, and it’s a great way to use up your pears that are past their prime. You can make this easy pear cider recipe on the stovetop or in a slow cooker. It’s great for fall parties and Thanksgiving, or just to cozy up on a Fall day!
Place pears and the juice from the orange in large pot or slow cooker and add the water over medium high heat. Add the 2 cups of brown sugar and all the spices.
In a pot, bring to a boil uncovered for 1 hour. (If using slow cooker: Cover, reduce heat to low and simmer 6-7 hours or high for 3 hours. And skip next step!)
Cover, reduce heat to low and simmer 2 hours.
Mash the mixture using back of a wooden spoon to release the juices and flavors.
The longer you let it sit, the more flavorful it will be!
Serve at room temperature or chilled.
And that’s it! You now have a delicious pear cider recipe to enjoy. This is a great drink for any time of year, but it’s especially perfect for fall. It would also be a nice addition to any holiday party menu! Happy fall, everyone!
